If you’re managing social media for your business, or have an external source doing it for you, it may come in handy to know some statistics.

Here are 5:

1. The fastest growing demographic on Twitter is the 55–64 year age bracket.

When coming up with post content, keep older users in mind. Our age makes a difference to our taste and interests, so if you’re focusing on younger users with the content you post, you could be missing an important demographic.

2. 189 million of Facebook users, use only their mobile phones.

Take this fact imto account as content posted may look different when on a mobile phone.

3. Every second 2 new members join LinkedIn.

Am increased favourite when it comes to professionals trying to connect with others in their industries.

4. Social Media has overtaken porn as the #1 activity on the web.

Yes, social media is THAT popular.

Social media carries more weight than ever. It’s clearly not a fad, or a phase. It continues to grow as a habit, and new platforms continue to appear and develop.

It is definitely worth your time and effort to continually strategise and rethink your social media campaigns.

5. 93% of marketers use social media for business.

That is an extremely high number, and for a good reason. You get noticed, if your campaigning is done PROPERLY.

Spliced Media founder Caid Pontus has taken a trip to the City of Gold to see the sights, and visit family. On her journey, she was introduced to an awesome spot, with unlimited potential.

Whisk, a Speciality Food and Wine Bar, is an amazing clash between old and new.
Vintage clocks, literature and craft beer, with music that that caters for any age?
It is a world that you can successfully enter, and unplug from the Matrix.

For the smokers, there is plenty space for you to enjoy your vice. For the ones with children, there is an amazing back garden area for the little ones to have fun!

Be sure to try the Strawberry and Lime beer, and pretty much anything on the menu. Your tastebuds will thank you later.

I have always been one for community upliftment, and helping those that stereotypes tend to ostracise. So when this thought came back to the forefront of my mind, I became quite excited.

I have been dabbling with the idea of a SOLORENEUR AWARENESS CAMPAIGN, primarily focusing on the hard working souls in Durban, and ultimately giving the lime light to those who deserve it across the country.

I named my campaign the 'LET'S INSPIRE' campaign, as that is what the individuals I wish to showcase have done for me. They have inspired me.

Being the founder of Spliced Media, is an amazing feeling. I own something, that I am passionate about, and no one can change that. The trials and tribulations of such an honor are tantemount, however, and a sense of intrinsic motivation is very neccessary. Sometimes I feel hopeless, sometimes I feel very overwhelmed. The idea that I, and I alone have to run all departments of this entity I have created can be daunting. For the people I am showcasing, their passion shines through, no matter their circumstance, and this makes me strive even harder.

I want to share this feeling with everyone out there. For those of you who have become complacent, who have given up on your dreams, who believe the formal rat race is the only beneficial one out there, I hope this inspires you to take the leap.

I will be bringing into focus several solopreneurs, people like myself, who are doing it all, despite the odds against them. They will be interviewed, they will be photographed, and I surely hope they are remembered as beacons of INSPIRATION.

Look out for more on my campaign, and LET'S INSPIRE!

Walking into a place, and thinking to yourself, 'I have found my tribe'. That's what the shop launch for Contemporary Insanity felt like to me.

Vicky Botha, owner of WildChild Xclusive, great friend/stylist/designer/client of mine invited me to the event. The opening lines of this blog should indicate how grateful I am!

For those of you who don't know what WildChild Xclusive is, check out their Facebook Page here. Custom made bustiers, dresses, themed outfits. The works. A true genius with clothing design. All one of a kind pieces, I absolutely love her brand!

Now, these stunning pieces of clothing, have a home away from home, in the all new Contemporary Insanity store, on Florida Road, Durban. The alternative haven, is definately the new MUST-GO-SEE place. Situated in the same building as The Hellfire Club, this, is one of those places you could spend the day at if your likes are on the opposite end of the 'commercial' scale. Check out their Facebook page here.

Cladded in once off artworks, and hand crafted masterpieces, Tarryn-Jane Dunkley's store hopes to promote some of the artists not only in Durban, but all over South Africa.

Steampunk, goth, metal, glam rock, punk, are some of the niches taken care of in this fantastic space. The odd live tarantula in a tank here, heart replica necklaces on display there, and epic Harley-Quin necklaces that have been handcrafted in the far left. Some of the most amazing clay sculpturing I think I have ever seen, done by Regan Paterson. As well as the greatest tea pot I have ever seen, made by Tarryn herself.

Some of the brands you can find in the store and need to check out:

Wildchild Xclusive

Iron Fist Shoes (because we all know how much us ladies love them)

All I can say is, I am so glad a place like this finally opened. It is about time, and Durbanites, please support your local artists and solopreneurs, we need to stick together!

Images from the night will be released soon!
The place was packed to the brim, of course, it was a FREE show in Durban. HA!

Anyone who wanted to try strut their stuff on stage, was welcomed with open arms.

Our MC of the evening was none other than Shannon Rice, awesome friend, and an even better comedian.

Let me give you some insight into Shannons' comedic abilities; But first, hide your girlfriends!

Imagine a Cheetah on Ecstacy - running through the veld, trying to show some love to a gazelle. The gazelle clearly doesn't want to be his friend for fear of anihilation, darting away, but the Cheetah screams for a hug!

That, is the sort of story that Shannon Rice brings to life when he gets up on stage, and I love it! Trust me when I say, so did everyone else. He is super animated, and all of his jokes are easily relatable, drawing inspiration from his every day environments. Dont even get me started on his impromptu stuff - damn he is quick on his toes.

Introducing each one of the acts, one began to see the insane amount of talent that our little dorpie holds.

Some of the Comics that gave it a shot last night, where:

Maxamillion

Kwanda

Kuda

Curt

Kevin

Alvin

Dale

Each had his own unique style, and still managed to erupt the audience into laughter, even though the crowd was pretty darn noisey. You guys rock!

The amazing thing about going to these events, is just that you never know if you are going to be watching the next Barry Hilton or Trevor Noah - all are stars in the making.

Overall, the night was a GREAT success, and Im sure many more will happen after this. If you are brave enough, look out for the next OPEN MIC event, and get up on stage! More gatherings like this need to happen - I take my hat off to Amsterdam, On Fire Comedy, Shannon and all the other comedians, for the belly aching laughter! What a night!

Be sure not to miss the next big gig with Dusty Rich on the 26th of August! It's going to be a cracker!

Also, check out the On Fire Comedy page on Facebook for updates on other up and coming, side splitting events.

The intense feeling of accomplishment when you break even, running around like a chicken without a head trying to problem solve, or just walking out into the big world to try and sell your services.

Your own company can easily be equated to germinating a seed.

You first need to pepare your soil medium, in other words, lay down your businesses foundation. Figure out your BUSINESS PLAN in congruency with your BRANDING STRATEGY.

Once you have worked out all the kinks on paper, you need to 'plant the seed'. Put all your plans into action, and effectively market your new company.

Keep nurturing. Never lose sight of what you are trying to achieve. Grow your seed.
With time and dedication, you will begin to watch your business grow. Blossoming into that which it you have tried so hard to achieve.

Boy oh boy, did she deliver.

Beautiful tie-dyed stretched canvas's adorned the Mount Moreland Community Park, leading you to the area where young ones would be taught how to mosaic, dance with poi, do yoga and drum!

Bubbles and laughter filled the air.

Mathina Tasker from VibeMasters, started the day off with some Poi Dancing. The kids had great fun in the sunlight, watching Tina's stunning poi creations move in the wind.

Sara Jackson and Jason Whyte, from the Art Collective, with some time to spare, got mosaic packages ready for mirror-making. With toddlers and youngsters running to free seats, the creative process started. Each youngster was given a pack of tiles and glue, with an already mounted mirror on a board. Sara and Jason didnt have to do much explaining before the kids started putting their master pieces together! After waiting for the glue to dry and the grouting was complete, each child had a mirror, created by them, to take home!

The day was not over though!

Time for Helena Gerrard, of Drumtime, to show her stuff.

Each little one gets a bongo drum to work with, while Helena tells them amazing stories. Using these stories, she creates a platform for the childrem to grasp rhythms on their drums. It's not only teaching amazing motor mechanics, but it brings out the social aspect as well. Highly entertained, the kiddies are left to run amok in the park, with slides, jungle gyms and swings to keep them occupied.

We didnt forget the parents either!

Wendy O'Grady from Shapes of Africa was stocked, and ready to provide to the adult masses, with her bar. All beverages, alcoholic or not, as well as tea and coffee for the parents who needed a caffeine boost!

It was an unforgettable day for all the families that came, and I, personally, cannot wait for the next one!

Check out BehindtheScene Photography for images from the day!

A certain individual, who calls himself the 'EcoMan', has stirred the once quiet conservancy.

In his emails and public forum announcements on his new Facebook page, 'Vervet Monkey Truthline', he states that the Vervet Monkey population in Mount Moreland has increased. At a rapid pace. Decimating everything in it's path, and causing harm to it's human neighbours.

His ending notes are always that of defamation, and inflammatory accusations, with no backing.

He says his reasons for starting the page, and mass hysteria; is because he wishes to find a solution. Yet he does not ever offer one. Not one that is benificial to both human and monkeys alike, anyway.

Some of the emails that have been sent by him, include trapping and relocating, euthanasing the creatures, taking those carcasses and giving them to rural settlements, culling and ofcourse allowing human inhabitant to shoot them if they so choose.

None of which are synonomous with a person who wishes to find an absolute solutuion, for the greater good of the ecosytem at large.

A distinct difference between the individuals of Mount Moreland is, some have a monkey 'problem', others have a problem with monkeys.

The people that have a problem with monkeys; label them as thieving vermin, equating them with humans who steal from us, and trash our homes on purpose. These are the people who sit on their patios and shoot pellets into the spines of nursing babies. These are the people that have no problem watching their dogs tear a juvenile apart, or set off firecrackers in their gardens.

Then, there are people who have monkey problems.

People who have monkey problems in Mount Moreland, generally want to find a solution that best suits both parties. They just lack the knowledge to better monkey proof their homes.

Here are some facts that were brought to light at a gathering of Mount Moreland residents, last night. Which, may I add, Ecoman did not show up for.

The open floor debate was put together by the Chairlady of the Mount Moreland conservancy, Angie Wilkens. She also invited, Monkey Helpline's Steve, to lay out some facts and scary stories. Sue from Primates Africa also has something to say, as well as the Natal Wildlife Conservation.

Here are some of the issues and facts about Vervet Monkeys that where brought to the table:

· The drought durban has been experiencing, is one of the main reasons why some of the Mount Moreland (MM)residence have been swarmed by monkeys. The water that they do have easy access to, a human wouldnt be able to drink, and neither can they. This means they are looking for water sources, wherever they can find them. Be it your fish pond, or dogs water bowl, they need to drink from somewhere.

· Some of the MM residence agree that the monkey population has exploded. There are many variables to why it may seem this way, but none of them validate the claim. There is NO monkey population boom. At the meeting, this was confirmed by both Monkey Helpline and the Natal Wildlife Conservation. If anything, they say, the populations should be decreasing at a rapid pace. The talk of natural predators is always brought up, but it is the unnatural that keeps them on the decline. Some of the 'unnatural' ways in which the population is 'controlled':

1. They get killed by dogs

2. They get electrocuted

3. They get caught in snares

4. They get run over

5. We cut down their natural food sources

6. People shoot and kill them, or injur severly.

7. We remove alien vegitation, like guavas, and never replace them

Some of the natural ways in which the population is controlled:

1. Monkeys are only sexually mature at the age of 4

2. Sometimes their arent enough males in the troop for each set of babies, which means less sexually active males

3. Females stay in their ancestors home, they never leave

4. Male monkeys in the troop generally leave when they reach the age of 4 or 5

5. Monkeys are pregnant for almost 7 months at a time.

· People who feed monkeys, especially by hand, are the ones doing a great diservice. The reason being, is that monkeys have now become used to being fed by us. They no longer need to forage, as they should. This brings monkeys into urban areas, easpecially the houses that feed them. Now, used to humans, almost fearless, they will come into your home, if the opportunity arises, and take that which they need. Never mind the fact that we cut down their natural food sources to make way for new highways and shopping malls. DO NOT FEED THE MONKEYS. This is old news, and the message could not be more clear. Plant a tree, an indigenous one. Help regrow their natural habitat. I can promise you, they are more interested in those fruit baring trees, than the processed bread loaf on your kitchen counter.

· Monkeys have no direct effect on the bird population. Do you realise that when you lay out your bird feeder, you are creating the most amazing target for a larger bird of prey. Nevermind the persticides, human traffic, reflective windows, rats, snakes and so on, that kill off our birds.

· Some people are affected more by the monkey troops in the area, because they devise very specific foraging routes. These routes allow for easy movement of the troops heirarchy, on a contstant food and water trail.

· Monkeys help the ground dwelling creature feed on the fruits the drop, especially the delicious ones the ground dwellers wouldn't be able to reach.

· Their ancestoral home is just as much their home, as our colonised homes are.

Having read all of the above, and taken every line into cosideration, do you still think we have monkey problem? Or just people who have a problem with monkeys?

At the end of the day, we need to take the responsibility for destroying their natural habitat, and figure out a solution that works for both sides. There are many solutions out their, the first being; ' DONT FEED THEM', the second calls for a change of mindset and the patience to break the conditioning we have had our hand in.

Just for future reference, it is ILLEGAL to let off a firearm in an urban area, and that includes air rifles. If you see your neighbour shooting anything in their garden, you CAN prosecute, and should. Do we really want another animal to go extinct because of our negligence?

Under the animal protection act, you are also not allowed to trap any wild animals, and this includes monkeys, so dont try and get clever.

I challenge anyone who wants to shoot a monkey, to follow Carol Booth on one of her rescues.

That, unequivocally, is my favourite part of my job.

Today started out with tea, coffee, and intense business jargon. Arriving at the Moses Mabidha Stadium, I got to meet Brett Blignaut, of BRB photography.
Check out some of his amazing imagery here.

I, as an alternative model, have been infront of the camera a lot, but the intricacies of digital photography was generally lost on me. The world of digital images was new to this old school film photographer.

So today, was about absorption of knowledge, allowing others to pick at my intellectual property, and of course, get some amazing pictures!

We where doing a photoset for a new force to be reckoned with, Dilosen Naicker. Brand strategist by day, and entrepreneur by night.
'I have always enjoyed a smooth brew of design creativity and brand strategy that enables me to dynamically think of potential concepts and ideas that can enable others to achieve greatness', says Dilosen.

Want to see him in action? Click here.

After our gulps of warm beverages, and a quick reminder that time does not stand still, we started the days shooting.

Light testing, angles, 'Smile Now' and ofcourse, location, were the go to words of the morning!

All together, I must say, Brett captured some amazing shots! I certainly learnt a lot, and in such a short space of time. Diloshen, was an absolute natural.
Watch this space for what this young business boffin is bringing to the table!

Here are some of the behind the scenes shots that I captured.
Check out our Facebook page for more Information on these two moguls, and the finals shots from this shoot, levelling up on corporate photography!

I personally, am not highly skilled in just one area, and don't have a fanatical approach to one subject: I.e: I'm not an athlete, but I love to exercise.

There are some of us, that were just born to be certain people in life. Some are natural born dancers, some are musicians, others are the cuts throat Wall Street executives. It has always been something of interest to me; people figuring out their lifes' calling, especially from a young age.

I mean, do they just innately know? Is it because of their parents pushing them in that direction?

Does PERFECT practice, really make perfect?

I'd love to start a dialogue on this.

Nature vs nurture, so to speak.

Caidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15612275046109805657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3851133245762374385.post-70744068295418339152014-11-23T10:44:00.001+02:002015-07-05T16:31:48.956+02:00UNDEAD. I cannot quantify the correlation between the days that pass, and the growth of my hatred for humans.

I pretty much is a steady increase, but I wont say that it jumps daily.

Once in a while, a soul regains your faith in humanity.

But that is not what this post is about.

I felt the need to explain my daily struggles.

In the hopes that someone who experiences the same would come forward.

Have you ever felt so angry, that the thought of complete universal obliteration sounded peachy.

I wish that moshing was allowed in public, without others looking on wards in dismay. Thats what I feel like doing, most days. Just out of pure frustration.I suppose the culture I come from, exhibits this when releasing emotion - and I wish I could just release my emotions like that everywhere.

Does anyone feel the same?

Caidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15612275046109805657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3851133245762374385.post-51967259139309946682014-11-13T16:56:00.000+02:002014-11-13T16:56:35.209+02:00New leaf? Again? Sometimes - well actually, most times, I just feel the need to leave. Without notice.

Just pack up my life and go to the next place.

I have done this a few times - and you'd think you'd get over being moved around - and having to start up again but I honestly, love it.

I am the carefree type - or at least I try to be. I'm just too anxious. Always.

I expect the worst to happen most of the time, and as for being positive, what does that even mean?

Being blissfully ignorant is one thing - but when you see the hurt out there - how does one stay innately happy?

Anyways, that was another one of my 'brain fart' moments.
That is what it is - NOISE.

BLAH BLAH BLAH - Nothing of substance.

I mean, dont get me wrong, I can talk the biggest load of crap on a good day - but it is generally to keep myself entertained.
To those of you, who think this is a viable means of communication, always, I loathe thee.

You only have one life to live, so live it to the fullest.

This statement can be interpreted in one of two ways, really:
1. Do whatever you feel, as you only have one chance,
2. This is the only life you have, do the best you can to keep it sacred

Most people go for option 1 - which, in all fairness is their choice, but please dont include me in your ''YOLO'' lifestyle.

I plan to leave a mark, one that could possibly teach generations to come.

I dont want to know about all your one night stands, and possible contraction of HIV.
I dont care about all the alcohol you drank last weekend, and how you are developing cirrhosis of the liver.
I dont care about your relationship issues, because you are abused and choose to stay quiet.

Get the picture?

Talk to me about your goals, your plans, how you have evolved.Caidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15612275046109805657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3851133245762374385.post-20569136352418744832014-10-24T13:42:00.000+02:002015-07-05T22:41:00.780+02:00Pies and ProgressMmmmm, pie.
Yummy pepper steak pie.

That's my lunch for today.
Yes, this post is going to be a load of gibberish, but that is how my brain works.
Pretty much.

Over the past few days, I have made contact with a few new gems that I am proud to add to my continuously growing group of friends. I have always been one for surrounding myself with any different types of souls. I feel you learn so much more. Considering each one of them has had a different life - with different perceptions and happenings that have occurred - that have moulded them into the people they are now.

I truly, find it fascinating. The progression of a human, that is.
Just to explain this a little more;

You are born. You grow up. Each context is different, but there can be spot on identical life situations that parties have to face. Each with their own outcome.
It fascinates me how a person who has grown up without a father figure can become a gentlemen on one side of the spectrum, and another could be a complete socio-path and abuser.

It is unbelievably irksome when you are put into a box. Just because you are Type A, doesnt mean you cant have Type B tendencies.

I personally, am a very caring, loving ,understanding and patient person. With some people
With others, I can be aggressive, impatient, insulting and short.
There are two very distinct sides to my personality, either of which is brought out in a certain social context.

You cannot put me into a box. You cannot categorise me. So why try? Caidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15612275046109805657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3851133245762374385.post-21483551800312757812014-10-22T14:07:00.003+02:002014-10-22T14:07:53.092+02:00Call to Action! It sometimes really amazes me how closed minded some individuals can be. Caustic really.
I find myself in arguments with people all the time for this reason - and I end up walking away hurt and disappointed because everything I have said has fallen upon deaf ears.

If only people could understand, I am coming from a good place.

The world is made up of roughly 8.2 billion autonomous beings - most of which live by the code 'ignorance is bliss'

Maybe I envy their simplistic view of life, not having an all encompassing view on it.

To be honest it just angers me.

If you close your mind to what is really going on out there - how can one make an informed decision?
I understand that being selfish sometimes is a good thing - protects one from being used and abused by the general masses, but you cannot live life thinking you are the only soul out there.

Everything and every one is part of a cycle.
If a link doesnt work, the chain breaks.

We are all working parts of a whole.

Wake up humanity! Let's start collaborating, creating brain hives!
We need this. Caidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15612275046109805657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3851133245762374385.post-38160660760813749742014-10-21T09:24:00.000+02:002014-10-21T09:24:52.997+02:00Common sense is not so common any more. The age of initiative is dead. Fucking dead. Common sense is not so common any more. The age of initiative is dead. Fucking dead.

WHY,do we have to steer individuals in the right direction. What the heck happened to the MORAL COMPASS?

Can one not deduce right from wrong? Good from bad?
Does everyone have to be spoon fed?
Does your mother still wipe your ass at the age of 25?

That is the impression I get of today's society.

The one thing my mother always told me was; use your initiative! (as well as cover your ass, but that's beside the point).
Just think - and if you cant think, well, donate your brain to science, you are an anomaly. (there are exceptions of course - but you all knew that, right?)

Welcome to the age of stupidity. Where everyone's sense of autonomy is at an all time high, with no fucking purpose. Seriously, oxygen thieves, could you try not drive like a wally, and to those of you who still think sarcasm is a form of wit, kindly die?

What ever happened to logical debates? Conversations with substance?
Don't get me wrong, sometimes I 'troll' the internet to just piss people off - but they always deserve it.

I love animals more than humans, so may some strong spirit protect you if you have a hunting page.
(Again, please note I understand that hunting helps culling - but to have every Tom,Dick and Harry doing it for a sport - kinda goes against what conservation is trying to achieve).

SPEAK YOUR MIND! The truth hurts, but it's all we really have left to differentiate ourselves form the hordes of troglodytes.

Caidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15612275046109805657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3851133245762374385.post-31609177135407530952014-10-20T16:53:00.000+02:002014-10-20T16:53:11.986+02:00Who,how,when?? After I posted my first post - my thoughts immediately went into a spin of DOUBT.
Who will read this?
How will they even know to actually read this?
When will this blog make a mark?

Basically, should I even continue with it?
Then my thoughts went into a spin of RESENTMENT.

'Just do it! You always fucking doubt yourself''.

Argh, I shall trudge on.

~ Follow, if you dare ~Caidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15612275046109805657noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3851133245762374385.post-73036464853248671852014-10-20T15:26:00.002+02:002014-10-20T16:53:36.851+02:00Who would have THOUGHT!? It has finally come to this: a blog about my thoughts.

Some have said it helps organise the disorder in my cranium, I say it'll make an awesome blog.

I cannot guarantee everyone will enjoy what I have to say: but I suppose this is not the blog for 'people-pleasing'.

I am honest, possibly too honest,if there is such a thing.
As a result,I often get in trouble for speaking my mind.
I feel being honest, in every situation, is a must. Those around you know where they stand with you. I think it makes life simpler.

Again,that may be just me.

I suppose a proper introduction of myself is in order;

Hi,my name is Caid. (Like Jade, but with a 'C'). (I am also a freelance alternative model - the above picture is me :) )
I am all of 24 years of age, albeit I feel like I am about to turn 92.
I have a degree, a double major in Industrial Psychology and Marketing. Although, I really wanted to study Genetics and Microbiology.

My interests are vast and wide; I am a philisopher, biologist, artist and networker. (To name a few)

I am the online business unit manager, blogger and SEO agent for NameBadgeSA (go check them out https://www.namebadgesa.co.za), and this is where I spend my Monday - Friday (8-5).

Enough about ME though.

By starting this blog, I am allowing myself to voice my thoughts to the world, and possibly find like minded individuals. I love debating, and generally learning from others.

MAYBE,this will be the place for it?Caidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15612275046109805657noreply@blogger.com2
